D4L
From ODF::Wiki
D4L usually stands for "Descent3 Level Editor 4 Linux". However, it is planned to be multiplatform, the "Linux" is because there is no Descent3 Level Editor for Linux (For windows, there is D3Edit).

[edit] File Formats
Whereas the ODF has readers for ORF (orf master) and OOF (oof master), only the important parts of the D3L format can be read/written (about a fourth, see d3l master).
The reason that no more time was invested for that project is that most programmers are concentrating on their own projects. Especially, it makes more sense to care about a level format for Flight Back.
